and Meter Installation Requirements Guide 01.20 GENERAL INFORMATION The Company usually makes no installations on the customer's premises other than to establish service and set meters, as provided in the appropriate Tariff. However, in certain instances it may be necessary for the Company to install additional electrical facilities on the customer's premises in order to provide the service required by the customer. In such cases, the Customer shall provide suitable space for the facilities, which shall remain the property of the Company and may be maintained when necessary, or removed when no longer required. Changes in apparatus or electrical equipment connected to the Company's lines, either by addition or replacement, which appreciably alter the characteristics of the demand upon the service, must not be made without the approval of the Company. The Companies Tariff make the Customer liable for any Company equipment which may be damaged through failure to comply with this requirement. Where the alteration or rewiring of a building will affect the meter or service entrance, the Company must be notified of the proposed change as far in advance as possible. Customer owned vaults and outdoor substations must be constructed in accordance with National Electrical Code requirements and the Company's specifications. Prior to starting any work, the applicant shall submit four (4) copies of the plans for the proposed facilities, together with a list of the principal apparatus to be used, for Company approval. The Customer, in order to avoid unnecessary delays, should confer with GPU Energy before making commitments for electrical wiring and equipment, so that a mutual understanding can be reached regarding requirements for service connection. Items to be determined include, but are not limited to:
GPU Energy reserves the right to delay connecting service until all requirements for service are met. There shall be no obligation on the part of GPU Energy either to connect or to remain connected with any Customer's wiring or facilities when the installation or maintenance thereof is not in accordance with the provisions of the NEC and GPU Energy's Requirements or when the certificate of compliance with the regulations of the NFPA has not been issued by any GPU Energy accepted electrical inspection agency or Municipal Bureau. GPU Energy does not install wiring or electrical apparatus in buildings and will not assume any responsibility for the condition of the wires or other electrical installation within buildings, or for damage arising because of the condition of same. All service wiring and conduit on the Customer's side of the point of delivery shall be installed, maintained, and operated by and at the expense of the Customer in accordance with all local or other governmental requirements, the NEC and GPU Energy's Requirements. No equipment belonging to the customer shall be attached to GPU Energy's poles without prior approval form GPU Energy. A request for service shall be made by the Customer, and a contract signed when required by GPU Energy, and such request or contract shall be duly accepted by GPU Energy before service connection is made. GPU Energy will use reasonable diligence to provide continuous, regular and uninterrupted service; but GPU Energy may interrupt service to any Customer for the protection of life or property, for making repairs, changes or improvements in any part of its system for the general good or safety of the public, or when in GPU Energy's sole judgment such interruption will prevent or alleviate an emergency threatening the integrity of the system, or will aid in the restoration of service. Should service be interrupted for any of the above reasons, or should service fail by reason of any accident, act of God, strike, legal process, governmental interference, or any cause whatsoever beyond its control, GPU Energy shall not be liable for damages, direct or consequential, resulting therefrom. In the case of primary service customers (over 600 volts), GPU Energy may, at its sole discretion, in lieu of a Certificate of Approval by a GPU Energy recognized inspection agency or municipal inspection bureau, accept a letter of certification from a Registered Professional Engineer certifying that the electrical installation on the customer's premises complies with all applicable codes. Before purchasing electrical equipment or proceeding with any wiring, it is necessary to obtain information from GPU Energy concerning the character of service available and location of service and meter.
