and Meter Installation Requirements Guide 04.25 COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL SERVICE SINGLE PHASE SERVICE Requests for commercial services having less than 100 ampere service entrance equipment must have approval of the local GPU Energy representative. For installations having only one two-wire branch circuit, the capacity of the service entrance conductors shall be not less than 40 amperes (wire size not smaller than #8 copper or equivalent) and the capacity of the service equipment shall be 30 amperes. See Requirement 12.60. Where the future demand of a new service could exceed 3 kW, or where the Customer's service entrance equipment is larger than 30 amperes, a single-phase, 100 ampere minimum 3-wire, 120/240 volt service shall be required. To service commercial or industrial Loads up to 400 amperes lacking a suitable building to attach a service to, the Customer will furnish and install one (1) centrally located pole and all facilities from this pole to the load to be served in accordance with Company standards and National Electrical Code requirements. See figure in Requirement 12.22. For those installations over 400 amperes, where metering instrument transformers are used, GPU Energy will furnish metering devices as shown on see figures in Requirements 12.24. The minimum conductor size for use to customer buildings and the buildings' service entrance cable will be 1/0 copper or equivalent. The Customer shall provide the connectors. If conduit is required it shall not be greater than six (6) inches in diameter. THREE PHASE SERVICE All overhead three-phase services (single and multiple meter installations) shall have 100 ampere, 4-wire, service entrance equipment as a minimum for each meter location. Service size in excess of 400 amperes shall have transformer rated services. (See figure in Requirement 12.70). For loads in excess of 800 amperes, it is recommended that enclosed busway with switchgear be installed for the service entrance (although CT cabinets can be used for services up to 2400A). The portion exposed to weather must be rust resistant and weather-proof. Customer or Contractor shall provide a space for metering transformers within the switchgear cubicle not less that 36"W x 30"H x 20"D with a bus separation of not less than 8", or a separate enclosure of like dimensions APPROVED BY GPU ENERGY'S METER DEPARTMENT to contain metering transformers. All polyphase underground single and multiple meter installations shall have 200 ampere, 4-wire service entrance equipment as a minimum for each meter location. See figures in Requirements 12.62, 12.64 and 12.66 for meter socket wiring for service 400A and less. Service size in excess of 400 amperes shall have transformer rated services. If conduit is required it shall not be greater than six (6) inches in diameter. The Customer shall provide the connectors. Requests for commercial services having less than 100 ampere service entrance equipment must have approval of the local GPU Energy representative. For installations having only one two-wire branch circuit, the capacity of the service entrance conductors shall be not less than 40 amperes (wire size not smaller than #8 copper or equivalent) and the capacity of the service equipment shall be 30 amperes. Where the future demand of a new service could exceed 3 kW, or where the Customer's service entrance equipment is larger than 30 amperes, a single-phase, 100 ampere minimum 3-wire, 120/240 volt service shall be required. When there are multiple services to separate customers originating from a three phase padmounted transformer or overhead transformer bank, provisions must be made so that the metering can be worked on for each individual customer, without deenergizing the transformer. If there are current transformers as well as self-contained meters, a disconnect must be installed ahead of the current transformers and the self-contained meters, regardless of how many meters there are, in order to isolate the individual customers. If there is more than one group of self-contained meters, a disconnect would be required ahead of each group. 120/240 SERVICE When the customer has requested 3 phase, 240 volt delta service, the service entrance must consist of three-phase wires and a grounding conductor sized according to National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. The proper phase conductor (wild/high leg) must be identified (orange) as per NEC requirements for the entire exposed length at the service head and in the meter socket or CT cabinet. For self-contained meters (<400 amp service), the "wild/high leg" must be on the right; for CT installations (service >400 amps), the "wild/high leg: must be on the top or on the right depending on whether the bus bars are horizontal or vertical. The Company will provide 3 phase, four-wire, secondary delta service at 120/240V only. 277/480 SERVICE When 277/480 volt service is to be provided, a lockable disconnect switch must be installed ahead of all meters, whether self-contained or current transformer (CT) rated. The reason for this is so that the meter equipment can be worked on while de-energized (cold sequence) as opposed to energized (Hot Sequence). EXCEPTION: This disconnect device will not be required for current transformer installations greater than 800 amps, provided that the service originates from a padmounted transformer or overhead transformer bank that is dedicated to serving only that customer (in this situation the Company de-energizes the transformer to work on the meter equipment). When multiple current transformer cabinets are utilized for 277/480 volt service a lockable disconnect device must be installed ahead of each current transformer cabinet. Such lockable disconnect devices shall be secured by the Company, and will not be accessible to the customer. TROUGHS OR RACEWAYS Metered (load) and unmetered (line) conductors shall not be installed in the same conduit trough or raceway. Provision shall be made to install a Company seal on troughs, splice boxes and raceways that contain unmetered wires. End of Specification:
