04.60   PROBLEM LOADS (WELDERS, FURNACES, ETC.)

UNUSUAL CONDITIONS

The company may discontinue or refuse to supply service to loads of unusual characteristics which might adversely affect the normal operation of the facilities of the Company or its customers. Service to such unusual loads may be supplied where the customer has installed corrective equipment in accordance with general or individual nondiscriminatory requirements and specifications of the Company.

WELDERS, X-RAYS, ETC.

The equipment and facilities for the installation of welders, X-ray and similar types of apparatus demanding exceptionally high currents for short intervals shall be APPROVED BY GPU ENERGY before installation. Such equipment must be installed to operate in the range of 200 to 480 volts with sufficient wiring capacity to prevent voltage fluctuation or interference with adjacent service. When supplied through a separate service entrance, the capacity shall be equal to at least 9 amperes per rated KVA of the equipment but in no case less than 100-ampere conductors.

If connected to a common entrance supplying the total load of the premises and the normal entrance capacity is less than 1/0 AL conductors, the capacity shall be increased 9 amperes per KVA of equipment rating. When entrance is 1/0 AL or larger, GPU Energy will advise regarding the increase in capacity.
