04.85   FLOOD PLAIN AREAS

LOCATION OF CUSTOMER'S MAIN SWITCH AND METERING - FLOOD PLAIN AREAS

Industrial and Commercial customers located within Flood Plain areas should place their electrical equipment such as main switches, emergency generators, etc., above the projected water level established by the Army Corps of Engineers.

If the main switchgear is not located above the projected flood level, the Customer must furnish and install disconnect(s) a minimum of two (2) feet above the projected flood level and ahead of the switchgear. In network areas, the Customer must furnish and install the necessary conduit from curb line to the disconnect and GPU Energy will furnish and install the conductor to the disconnect.

If the main switchgear is located above the flood level in network areas, the Customer must furnish and install the conduit from the curb line. GPU Energy will furnish and install the conductor up to a height of 15 feet above street level on the inside wall nearest the service entrance to the building. The Customer, at this point, must furnish and install a disconnect and conductor from this point to the switchgear. Contact the nearest GPU Energy office for more specific information.

OVERHEAD

The service entrance is that part of the customer's wiring in cable or conduit (with caps or weatherheads and fittings) extending from a designated location above the service attachment to the metering facilities and protective equipment. THE CABLE OR CONDUITS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ONE CONTINUOUS RUN BETWEEN SERVICE AND METERING FACILITIES with at least two (2) feet of wire extending beyond the cap or weatherhead. All fittings shall be rust resistant and weatherproof.

The service entrance for overhead services shall terminate on the outside building wall as high above ground as possible but need not exceed 20 feet except where unusual conditions exist. Allowance should be made to secure proper clearance if wires cross private drives which may be used by commercial vehicles. See Requirement 4.10 .

UNDERGROUND

The service entrance is that part of the customer's wiring in cable or conduit that extends from the metering facilities to the protective equipment and shall be installed in one continuous run. All fittings shall be rust resistant and weatherproof.

The service entrance for underground services shall terminate on the outside building wall at the meter. See figure in Requirements 12.14 & 12.16 .
