Service and Meter Installation Requirements Guide

04.90   EMERGENCY GENERATORS

EMERGENCY SERVICE

When a customer-owned standby emergency power generator is installed, the customer's wiring shall be arranged so that there can be no electrical connection between GPU Energy's service and the customer's other source of supply. This requires the installation of an automatic or manual throwover switch to control all or part of the customer's load. Figure in Requirement 12.44 shows the recommended installation. Where service size exceeds 200 amperes, contact the nearest GPU Energy office for installation details.

All emergency installations must be inspected and GPU Energy provided a certificate of approval, or its equivalent, issued by a GPU Energy recognized inspection agency or municipal inspection bureau using the National Electrical Code as a minimum standard (Articles 700 and 702).
