05.10   METER LOCATION

LOCATION

All meter locations and points of delivery of service must be acceptable to GPU Energy, generally as indicated below, and shall be in accordance with all applicable national and local codes. IN GENERAL, METERS SHALL BE LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. Outdoor meter installations shall not be installed on GPU Energy-owned poles except for authorized special applications. Meter mounting devices shall not be mounted on pad-mounted distribution transformers or other GPU Energy equipment.

Single Dwelling - The meter socket shall be on the side wall nearest the Company's electrical source. If this is not practical then the meter shall be installed on the front of the building.

Townhouse Residence - The meter sockets shall be located on the front wall as designated by GPU Energy.

Mobile Homes - Two (2) lots will be served from a single set of service conductors to a two (2) position meter pedestal.

Outdoor meter installations shall be readily accessible and shall not be recessed or located over windows, doors, or project into or over sidewalks, walkways or driveways or exposed to mechanical damage or hazardous locations. Outdoor meter installations should also not be located in breezeways and carports or on porches or under first story windows unless the window cannot be opened. Outdoor meter installations should not be made on utility poles (with the exception of specially approved meter installations such as cable TV installations). Meter installations shall have at least four (4) feet of clear space in front and one (1) foot of clear space on all sides.

If GPU Energy decides an outdoor location is not practical, socket meters may be located in the basement or other locations approved by GPU Energy as near to the point of service entrance as possible. The inside location selected shall be accessible at all times to both the Customer and GPU Energy, and shall be clean, dry and free from vibration and temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). The location shall be clear of all heating systems, plumbing and other obstructions. There shall not be less than four (4) feet of clear area in front of and not less than one (1) foot of clear area on all sides of all metering equipment.

Where the Company has permitted an indoor installation, the customer will provide a board for mounting Company meters and metering equipment. Meter boards should be constructed of one (1) inch clear pine stock, or 3/4 inch exterior type plywood. Meter boards should be mounted at the required height on substantial supports allowing at least a 1/4 inch air space between the board and foundation wall (see figure in Requirement 12.74 ).

The height of the meter from the floor or ground line (finished grade) shall be 60" unless otherwise specified in drawings in Section 12.

IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE METER AT A LOCATION, EACH METER SOCKET SHALL BE PLAINLY AND PERMANENTLY MARKED BY THE CUSTOMER TO INDICATE THE CIRCUIT OR LOCATION SERVED. THESE MARKINGS SHALL BE APPLIED TO BOTH THE INSIDE OF THE METER SOCKET AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE METER COVER.
