05.50   SERVICE DISCONNECT SWITCH REQUIREMENTS

All disconnect switches, service switches, circuit breakers and fuses shall be furnished and installed in accordance with NEC requirements. No switches or circuit breakers shall be mounted ahead of metering equipment except for multiple customers off a three phase transformer (See Requirement 4.25) and/or for 277/480 volt requirements (See Requirement 4.25) and/or exceptions as permitted by the NEC (See Requirement 4.40).

Any switch or circuit breaker approved by a nationally recognized testing agency and bearing their label may be used, provided it meets the above standards along with the following requirements:

Service equipment and its overcurrent protection devices shall have short circuit current rating equal to or not less than the available short circuit current at its supply terminal, but in no case less than 10,000 AIC. Contact GPU Energy for available fault current at each service location.

Each switch or circuit breaker enclosure shall be securely closed before service will be energized.

If used in a location where multiple customers are served, each meter socket and switch or circuit breaker, shall be plainly and permanently marked so as to indicate the service controlled.

The Customer shall be responsible for periodic re-evaluation, inspection and maintenance of the equipment and shall assure adequate fault duty protection.
