and Meter Installation Requirements Guide 06.10 SELF-CONTAINED METER SOCKETS It shall be the responsibility of the Customer to furnish and install a GPU Energy approved meter socket for all self-contained services. A listing of approved equipment giving manufacturer and catalog number is contained in the "Approved Meter Sockets", Section 13. In Pennsylvania, as part of the service inspection, an electrical inspector, acceptable to GPU Energy, shall verify, by physically checking the catalog number stamped on the meter socket, that the socket is GPU Energy approved. If GPU Energy requirements are not adhered to, GPU Energy reserves the right to delay service connection until the deficiencies are corrected. SINGLE-PHASE Single-phase 3-wire service (120/240 volt) not exceeding 400 amperes will be metered self-contained (i.e., without instrument transformers). See figure in Requirement 12.58. Single-phase service installations requiring over 400 amperes capacity will be supplied at the option of GPU Energy. These services, if approved, will be metered with the use of instrument transformers. See figure in Requirement 12.78 . If a 2-wire service is approved by GPU Energy, the Customer shall modify the standard 3-wire socket for 2-wire application in accordance with Requirement 12.60. All sockets installed for 2-wire services shall be equipped with a fifth terminal or jaw preferably located in the 9 o'clock position. All meter sockets installed single-phase 120/208 (400A maximum) volt self-contained services shall be equipped with a fifth terminal or jaw preferably located in the 9 o'clock position. It is the Customer's responsibility to have all self-contained meter sockets maintained in a safe and operational condition in accordance with applicable national and local electrical codes. POLYPHASE Three-phase service not exceeding 400 amperes will be metered self-contained (i.e., without instrument transformers). Services exceeding self-contained metering requirements (i.e., 400 amperes) will be metered with the use of instrument transformers. See figure in Requirement 12.76 . End of Specification:
