Service and Meter Installation Requirements Guide

10.10   TEMPORARY SECONDARY SERVICE

OVERHEAD/UNDERGROUND TEMPORARY SERVICE

Service for a temporary or short term period will be supplied and billed, under the applicable service classification, when the Company's available installed facilities are of adequate capacity to render such service. The fixed charge for single phase temporary service is only applicable when the service can be connected from existing facilities (80 feet maximum service length for overhead and 15 feet maximum for underground). Additional fixed charges are required for the installation of transformers and/or secondary spans, which will be installed only for the temporary service, and subsequently removed. When poles and primary facilities need to be installed to furnish the temporary service, and ultimately the permanent service, lines extension charges may also be applicable.

Application for temporary service should be made through the Customer Service Center by calling the toll free number for the appropriate region. You will be required to furnish the information on the Service Application Check List detailed in Requirement 1.25, for all applicants.

The applicant shall furnish a service post, meter board, meter pan, and other specified items in accordance with figures in Requirements 12.82 and 12.84 for temporary overhead service, or Requirements 12.86 and 12.88 for temporary underground service. The specifications outlined on these drawings refer to single phase service of 400 amperes or less. Requirements for temporary service of larger capacity, phase, and/or distance must be reviewed with the appropriate Customer Operations Center before the installation is started. The Company will not attach a service to any structure that it considers to be of inadequate strength, or which is not plumb. Service will not be connected to mobile structures.

Temporary service masts should be set back 15 feet from existing pole lines to avoid conflicts with communication conductors.

The Company will connect the temporary service and set the meter only if the installation complies with the Company's temporary service specifications, and the facilities have been approved by an authorized inspection agency, which has forwarded a cut-in card to the Company. Cut-in cards must be hand-carried or mailed to the Company by an authorized inspection agent. Cut-in cards will not be accepted from contractors or customers. Under certain conditions, the Company will accept a facsimile ("fax") of the cut-in card. For further details, contact the appropriate Customer Operations Center.

Temporary service facilities should be removed within thirty (30) days following either the completion and acceptance of all permanent electrical facilities, or the expiration of the construction permit for which the temporary service was obtained.

In Pennsylvania, the Customer shall excavate and back-fill the cable trench from the temporary structure to GPU Energy's secondary facilities.
